Research content

Vascular diseases such as myocardial and cerebral infarctions are blood vessel disorders triggered by the mechanical stress induced by blood flow obstruction and subsequent degeneration of vascular tissue. The aim of our research is to develop an integrated simulation system based on image-based modeling and multiscale calculations. In particular, we aim at modeling both the dynamic influences on the blood vessel walls and the physiological influences of, e.g., changes in cell functions by studying conditions such as atherosclerosis and cerebral aneurysms while considering the blood vessel hierarchical structure, which presents various spatial scales. We aim at developing a simulation system for the diagnosis and treatment of individual cases based on medical imaging and measurement data to elucidate the disorder mechanisms in terms of clinical applications.
