Research content

The properties of structural materials depend not only on the crystal and molecular structures, but also on various scale microstructural factors such as grain size and shape, the nature of grain boundaries, and the density and distribution of defects such as dislocations. Accordingly, to understand structural materials and predict their properties, it is important to develop a method to capture the geometrical features of the material microstructure and extract the dominant physical phenomena. In this laboratory, we aim to extract the factors governing the properties of structural materials and to obtain new design guidelines for structural materials by integrating the data obtained by newly developed quantitative measurement methods of material microstructures and computational materials science/data-driven science.
