The understanding of atomic-scale stress provides a deep insight about the relationship between strain and nanoscale phenomena, such as structural instability, magnetic property of crystals, adsorption energy on surfaces. Using first-principles local stress analysis, our research explores the possibility to control the functionality of nanomaterials by mechanical stress.
